Electronic health card

Brief Description

The Electronic Health Card is a plastic card that is free and required to access services provided by the National Health Service. The card is sent to all citizens registered with the Regional Tuscan Health Service and is valid for a period of 6 years, or for the same duration as the residence permit held. 

The health service card contains a digital certificate embedded in a microchip which guarantees privacy and access to services provided by Public Administration offices. 

The card is required every time we go to the doctor or pediatrician, every time we collect medication in the pharmacy, every time we book a blood test in a laboratory and every time we go for an appointment with a specialist at the hospital or in an ASL clinic. 

The functions of the Electronic Health Card

The Electronic Health Card has several functions: 

  • Health Services Card: allows for the immediate reading of a number of items of the owner’s personal data (name, date and place of birth and tax code) and can be used when accessing health services, or at a pharmacy to obtain the receipt that can be detracted from declared income etc;
  • Tax Code: this is the official document which attributes a code issued by the Inland Revenue authorities and is used to identify the owner for fiscal purposes;
  • European insurance and illness card (TEAM): valid for the purposes of health insurance when travelling to countries within the European Union and allows access to relative health services; this substitutes Form E111 as of 2005;
  • National service card: is an instrument by which it is possible to access one’s personal data contained in the personal electronic health file at any time.​

Where to go

31.08.2016 - Hunters residing in the Central District, from the month of September can collect their hunting licenses at the PR Office from Monday to Friday, 0900-1300.
