What you can do without converting your residency permit
One can conduct many different activities without having to apply for a conversion of the residence permit.
Below is a list of activities permissible by Italian law, if in possession of the following residency permits:
Residency Permit for family reasons: allows the holder to be self-employed, be employed or to study;
Residency Permit for self-employment: allows the holder to be self-employed or to study;
Residency Permit for subordinate employment: allows the holder to be employed or to study;
Residency Permit for study or training purposes: allows the holder to be employed (for a maximum of 1,040 hours per year);
Residency Permit for humanitarian reasons: allows the holder to be employed or to be self-employed;
Residency Permit for guardianship reasons: allows the holder to be employed, to be self-employed or to study;
Residency Permit for minors: allows the holder to study;
Residency Permit for reasons of assistance for minor: allows the holder to be employed or be self-employed;
Residency Permit for the integration of a minor: allows the holder to be employed, be self-employed or to study;
Residency Permit for humanitarian reasons, for social protection or public safety: allowes the holder to be employed to to study;
Residency Permit for reasons of political asylum: allows the holder to be employed, be self-employed or to study;
Residency Permit for subsidiary protection: allows the holder to be employed, self-employed or to study;
Residency Permit for asylum application: allows the holder to be employed or self-employed (but only when 6 months has passed since the application was submitted, the decision has not yet been made and the delay cannot be attributed to he/she who has requested a residence permit for reasons of asylum);
Residency Permit for pending reacquisition of citizenship: allows the holder to be employed or self-employed;
Residency Permit for adoption reasons: allows the holder to be employed or self-employed.
