How and when to process your income tax return statement

On the Inland Revenue website you can find a pre-compiled version of the "730 Form" for employees or retired persons.

To process an income tax return statement for a physical person, it is necessary to complete a different form, depending on the taxpayer's profile:

  1. 730 Form: a simple form to declare income. It can be used by all employees or retired persons as well as those who need to declare an income from land or property owned. For the year 2016, the 730 Form must be submitted by July 7th.
  2. Physical Person Tax Return (Modello Unico) : this is the unified form that allows one to submit more than one fiscal statement. For example, persons who should complete the unified form are taxpayers who are accountable for an income statement and a VAT statement. For the year 2016, the Modello Unico must be submitted, electronically, by 30th September.

To complete the paperwork it is possible to get help from the relevant union CAAF Offices (Fiscal Assistance Authorised Centres). Bring the following documents:

  • Unique Certificate Form (certificate issued by employer in relation to income during the previous year);
  • Worker's tax code, and those of any eventual dependent spouse or children;
  • Documentation in relation to any deductible expenses: medical bills, mortgage interest, life and car insurance, school and university fees, funeral costs, children's sporting activity charges, public transport subscriptions, child care costs, etc.

For foreign national workers: it is necessary to possess a “family status certificate” if children are resident in Italy, or an equivalent document issued in the country of origin, translated into Italian and considered valid by the Italian Consolate in the country of origin.

Warning! Deadlines can be changed or extended. For this reason, it is advisable to consult the deadline section on the Inland Revenue's website.
